18 Values of Tinted-Gesso in Verdaccio paint. Step by Step Guides. Easy-to-use as you learn to transform any image into a painting.

We can help anyone learn to paint using up to 18 values of Tinted-Gesso in Verdaccio. Each set includes 18 different values of green-gray gesso with marble dust mixed in. These are water-based and can be used as an underpainting, final painting, or as a quick study. I will send you videos showing you different techniques used by students in our studio. We will also send you files that you can download to learn to paint like an Old Master. Each jar is 1.3oz. The complete set is enough for 60 small underpaintings. You add water to the jars as you use them, and it extends their viability without thinning due to the marble dust. I will also send you youtube videos to show you how to use them like our students do. I will also allow you to email me with questions after you get started with your set.

We use photoshop or Gimp to process the image of our composition. 1. We crop and size the image to fit our canvas. 2. Remove color to make a greyscale image. 3. Posterize the image using desired # of levels (values) to describe the object. 4. Print the pattern. 5. Cut it to fit your canvas. 6. Tape it to one side of the canvas. 7. Place transfer paper under your pattern. 8. Use an ink pen to transfer all the different geometric shapes of each value. 9. Start with the darkest value in your pattern and paint smooth and flat as if you are applying fingernail polish. We use round bristle brushes. 10. Continue painting each value in your pattern then touch up or adjust values as needed.
For portraits we like to paint the background first. We also use gesso tinted with acrylic paint and marble dust to tone our canvases before transferring the pattern.
We trained students as young as 5 to use math and science to paint in a classical Academic method.
