Sigyn is a Goddess of loyalty and endurance of trials, and the wife of the fiery trickster God, Loki, known in Norse mythology for her inner strength in protecting him from the hissing, dripping venom of a serpent while lying bound and helpless in a cavern. She is thought to be one of the figures depicted on the medieval Saxon Gosforth Cross.
