Hammocks were first introduced to Europe from the West Indies, by Christopher Columbus. Hammocks date back 1000 years to the indigenous peoples of Central and South America. They were woven from the fibrous bark of the hamack tree and the name "hammock" is Haitian for "fish net". Ever popular, scientists now claim that the pleasant rocking motion synchronizes our brain waves much like rocking a baby to sleep.
