Description

Here is a beautiful collection of Celtic symbols to decorate your neck! This charm cluster necklace features silver plated pewter triquetra (three pointed Celtic knot), large Celtic cross, large 4 cornered open Celtic knot (quaternary knot), tree of life, spiral goddess, and small medieval Celtic cross charms. The charms are made in the USA from lead-safe pewter and are plated with fine silver. They range from a little under 1/2" to 3/4" tall. The entire charm cluster is about 2.5” long.

The charm cluster is hung on a sterling silver twisted ring, which is attached to a textured, oxidized, sterling silver chain. It is finished off with a high quality sterling silver lobster clasp.

I make a similar necklace with other symbols of ancient religions, available here:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/96942875/ancient-religions-coexist-silver-charm

CHARMS: You can substitute another quaternary knot (smaller, solid charm) for either the goddess or the larger Celtic cross, if you prefer. Contact me for photos of these options if you desire to substitute out either of those charms.

The necklace coordinates with my Celtic symbols charm bracelet:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/66291503/celtic-symbols-silver-charm-bracelet

The meanings of the charms are listed below the necklace length section.

CHARM FACTS
================

The triquetra (triple or trinity knot) is believed to represent the three stages of woman (Maiden/Wife, Mother, and Crone (old woman). In contemporary Ireland, It is traditional for a man to give a loved one a trinket such as a necklace or ring signifying his affection towards her. It is believed to represent the three promises of a relationship such as to love, honour, and protect. It is also thought to represent the Land, Sea and Sky, or the interconnected parts of our existence (Mind, Body, and Soul).

The Quaternary knot (4 cornered celtic knot) is symbolic of endlessness. It is also thought to stand for the for the four elements - fire, earth, wind and water. Others believe that it represents the sign of good luck (as is the four leaf clover). In Druidic philosophy there are four Gods governing a specific quadrant of the world. This Celtic knot is believed to invoke these powers for protection during sickness and wars. In Celtic culture, the four corners may represent the four festivals - Samhain, Beltane, Imbolc, Lughnasadh or be an emblem of Brigid, the Queen of Four Fires with her four hands of wisdom, earth, heart and head.

The Celtic cross is a symbol that combines a cross with a ring surrounding the intersection. In Ireland, it is a popular legend that the Celtic Catholic cross was introduced by Saint Patrick or possibly Saint Declan during his time converting the pagan Irish. It has often been claimed that Patrick combined the symbol of Christianity with the sun cross, to give pagan followers an idea of the importance of the cross by linking it with the idea of the life-giving properties of the sun. However this theory is now thought unlikely by most art historians, who think an origin from crosses carrying a victor's wreath around their intersection is more likely. Such a cross is found on the reverse of the Liudhard medalet from Canterbury in England in the 590s. Here I am using the Celtic cross as a symbol of ancient Christianity.

The Tree of Life: The concept of 'tree of life' can be found in many cultures including the Celtic. The crosses of Celtic and Northumbrian origins have tree of life symbols portrayed on them. Celtic tree of life depicts the different forces of nature which converge together to create harmony. Ancient Celts (Druids) believed that trees had many special powers. The meaning of Celtic tree of life can be interpreted in many different ways. The balance and harmony which is observed in nature can be best symbolized with the tree of life. However, balance and harmony are the result of many different forces which operate in the universe. The Celtic people attribute tree of life symbol to qualities such as wisdom, strength and longevity.

The goddess with double spiral represents several things. The double spiral represents the equinoxes, when day and night are equal, and is a sign of balance. The spiral was the earliest known decoration used in art. The directional flow of the spiral symbolizes our movement through the experiences of life, death, and rebirth. The ancient Celts believed in this idea and as a result, their myths and legends refer to this journey. And of course, the goddess represents the beauty and strength of all women.
