DICK TRACY'S Bonnie Braids Doll, this doll was a character from the Dick Tracy comic strip that ran in the Chicago Tribune for years in the 50's, she was Dick's daughter.

This Bonnie Braid doll was made by a rival company in the 50's and not authorized by the Chicago Tribune who had authorized a version of this doll to the Ideal Toy Company. Both versions sold in the 50's.

Originally this doll had a one piece latex body to match her vinyl head, but like many other vinyl dolls of this age it deteriorated and was of no use after a short period of time in the heat. After this happened to this little girl's doll a caring Mom or Grand Mom made a soft cloth body by hand with amazing details and that is what I am selling here, a doll with the original head and a folk art body that was handmade, with handmade clothes.

The Mom did such a fantastic detailed job, as you can see with her fingers and toes (see images). Best of all she used vintage Buster Brown socks for part of the body covering, amazing to see. In my last photos you can see the old Buster Brown sock logo in two places on her body, with the sock size 8. A great touch as she is now the best of two famous comic strips, Buster Brown and Dick Tracy.

Condition:

Bonnie's bright blue eyes are hand painted and she has a tiny white tooth painted on the bottom of her mouth. She is wearing real leather shoes, they look like Buster Brown shoes but have no markings and look like they were hand made too. She is wearing beige hand made crochet underwear and a hand made red nylon dress and slip, the dress has a lovely lace trim.

She is in amazing condition. Her vinyl head is painted yellow and has some wear spots (hard to notice see images). Her pig tails are bright and perfect, they look like they were trimmed a bit short but look perfect on her face.

Her home made soft body has only slight wear with a tiny bit of soil. The body cloth looks old but has no tears or open stitches. The shoes are all leather with ribbons for ties, all in good condition.

The socks have a few holes in the foot areas one hole is large on the heal area but is covered by the shoe, there are a few tiny holes in the socks also. The dress is in very good condition and very clean as is the slip. Her dress has two pins on the back side that close it. Her crochet underwear has some dark age color to it, in certain areas on the back side. This gal is amazing and lovely to look at and lovely to hold close a face that is so real and loving in person. She is about 14" tall.
