Truetone radios were available through Western Auto stores for most of the 1940's and 1950's. The Model D 2017 was similar in design to the Philco Mod. 49-501 boomerang style radio and many of the Truetone chassis were in fact made by Philco.

This example was originally sold to an auto paint store in about 1951 and who applied a different finish using their paint product on the radio. They used a General Motors creamy yellow enamel that was an available option color for the 1950 automobile lines. Although the finish does show some wear in places, the overall paint was in good condition so we opted to restore it rather than refinish the case. Now the original shine has been revived.

This is an AM table radio housed in a high quality painted bakelite case featuring a lighted glass dial and a large booming speaker for great sound. It has excellent tuning sensitivity and picks up stations easily.

The radio has been completely restored electrically and tubes replaced where necessary. The case is in excellent condition with no structural issues such as cracks or chips. A new power cord was installed to assure safe and reliable operation.

This is a sizeable piece at 14 inches wide and 7 1/2 inches tall at its highest point and 7 inches deep. The original back is firmly attached as seen in the 4th photo.

The boomerang design style was in vogue for just a short time so these radios are very difficult to find. This one is in very nice condition and its 63 year old paint job shines as it did originally while the superficial wear simply adds to its charm.
