Take your hands off the wheel and leave the flying to us. This C-1 autopilot is essentially an electromechanical robot which automatically controls the airplane in straight and level flight, or maneuvers the airplane in response to the fingertip control of the bombardier. These units were used in B-17's, B-24's and B-29's. Bomber crews would use this panel on the final leg of a bomb run. The pilot would engage the unit, and the bombardier could take over control of the aircraft and make minor course corrections as they approached the target. A most sophisticated instrument for its time in the '40s. This would make an outstanding display piece. Measures 8"x8"x4". Ships USPS insured.
