Melted Vintage Mason Jar, blue soap dish, spoon rest, butter dish from recycled Ball pint jar, gift box included

Blue Ball half pints are rare collector's items (when they are whole and standing upright, that is!). This is a pint jar cut in half (hence the "half pint") and slumped into a soap dish, a spoon rest, or a catch-all, made in our basement kiln.

Add some humor to your vintage kitchen, or give a unique gift to a jar-loving friend.

Four little rubber feet lift the glass off your surface and keep it from sliding. Hand wash only.

Dimensions: approximately 3.5" x 5.5" (made from a pint jar)

We want you to love your order, so if anything goes wrong, please contact us right away so we can make it right!

Handmade + Old Glass = One of a Kind
All our vintage aqua jars are from 1937 or older. Back then, jars had a lot of variety in thickness of glass and shades of aqua. That's why they are so much fun to collect! But that also means they behave differently in the kiln. And because of their age (at least 76 years old), they sometimes have flaws. We try our very best to give you a melted Ball jar that you will love, but if you don't love it, just let us know and we will try very hard to make the perfect match.

The Process
We take care to specially prepare our jars, then we (I mean Bernard) slump them in our basement kiln. That's the official term for the melting we do. I think they come out with a nice jar shape. It takes about 12 hours from start to finish.

We started making our unique design of melted jars in 2010, but health issues kept Bernard from continuing until this summer. We are glad to bring them back!

Want clear? Because the color of vintage Ball jars doesn't go with every kitchen, we also offer clear. For more info about clears, see here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/157282185/melted-vintage-mason-jar-clear-or-blue

We also have a brighter modern blue here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/158117981/melted-modern-blue-mason-jar-spoon-rest?ref=shop_home_active

WHY??

We started slumping our blue Ball jars because many were too scratched or damaged to sell in our store. And in the spirit of the Ball Brothers themselves, we couldn't throw anything away. So we began slumping jars, creating new and beautiful items out of our "seconds."

SOME BLUE JAR HISTORY...

Ball Brothers of Muncie, Indiana made this color of jar from 1914-1937. The color came from minerals in the Lake Michigan sand and the oxygen content of the furnace. Even though the glass varied in color from green to aqua to blue, no one has been able to reproduce Ball's antique colors after 1937--not even Ball themselves! They revived the blue jars in 1975-76 for the US Bicentennial, but even that blue is not quite the same.

If you have a special request related to recycling antique jars, please ask.
