SEWING PATTERN (a downloadable pdf file written in English)

This romantic cloche hat is now an exciting sewing project. I designed this cloche in the style of the 1920's. The brim gathers into 2 pleats on one side and can be flipped up or down on the other. It makes a lovely hat for little girls and adult women alike.

This PDF file is instantly downloadable and can be printed on 8.5"x11" letter sized paper or A4 paper. It contains detailed illustrations of each step of the project. The pattern is complete with sewing tips, notions required, fabric recommendations, size measurement instructions, sewing terminology and coupons for your next Elsewhen purchase. The sewing and millinery techniques in this pattern will be useful for future sewing projects and your overall understanding of hat construction.

• Sewing Pattern
• Printable Measuring Tape (converting inches to centimetres)
• Translation of Hat Sewing Terms (French, German, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese)

Intermediate - You must be familiar with your sewing machine and properties of different fabrics.

19"-25" measuring around the head above the ear (child to adult)

• ½ yard of hat fabric
• Matching thread (hat and trim color)
• ¼ yard of lining fabric
• 2 covered buttons (desired size)
• Iron-on adhesive or fusible interfacing (optional)
• Sewing machine needle for thick fabrics (denim needle)

(Wire, joints and iron-on adhesive available in the Elsewhen shop)

I recommend a fabric of light to medium thickness like corduroy, canvas, light upholstery fabric or velvet. Thicker fabrics that are stiff or bulky will not produce a very cleanly waved pleat. If you are using a thin fabric like linen or fabric with stretch, you can thicken or stabilize it by fusing it to interfacing or to cotton with iron-on adhesive. Patterns or stripes on the fabric may detract from the accent pleat area, so choose a fabric that isn’t too busy. For the hat lining, fabrics like taffeta, satin, or pre-washed cotton are best.

The style of the hat is lovely. The designer has included several sizes to make sure you get a proper fit. I couldn't make up my mind which hat I liked best so I bought two different hats.
