Description

Preserve the ashes of your beloved pet in a lampwork glass bead, handmade with care by glass artist Christine Hansen.

...

I will work with you to create a beautiful keepsake that honors your loved one's memory. You may choose to wear your bead as a pendant, hang it as an ornament, display it as a personal art object, or simply keep it in your pocket and hold it, as one would a worry-stone.

To create a memorial bead, I use a tiny portion of cremated ashes and encase them in molten glass. The ashes react with the glass and may create bubbles - the results are lovely, but unpredictable. Transparent glass discreetly allows you to see the ashes, while opaque glass conceals the treasure within.

...

I offer several different styles of memorial beads - and some colors work better with ashes and certain styles than others. I'll be happy to work with you on this and help you figure out the color/style that is right for you. My goal is to create a bead that you love.

Pictures shown in this listing are some of the memorial beads I've created, to give you an idea of what you might expect. The last picture shows a memorial bead made into a pendant, with optional sterling silver wirework. This style of memorial bead is the Galaxy Swirl bicone, and is available here: https://www.etsy.com/listing/157666053/galaxy-swirl-series-bicone-glass

Once you've completed your purchase, I will convo you and we will begin the process. I'll send you my mailing address, and you'll share with me which color and style you'd like for your bead. I'll be happy to talk with you by phone if it's more comfortable for you.

...

This listing is for one small round memorial bead only, made with one color. Finished size is about 5/8" in diameter. Size varies because each bead is made by hand and is a one-of-a-kind creation.

If you'd like me to add sterling silver wirework to turn your memorial bead into a ready-to-wear pendant (or ready-to-hang ornament), please see this listing:
https://www.etsy.com/listing/116725940/sterling-silver-wirework-to-turn-focal
You'll need to purchase both listings at the same time.

...

What I will need from you:
~~~ One teaspoon of ashes, securely double-bagged and placed in a padded envelope or box. The vast majority of this will be returned to you with your finished bead. Please add tracking & delivery confirmation to the package when you send it to me.
~~~ The color you'd like for your bead
~~~ A (digital) photo and/or a little information about your loved one helps, but is not absolutely necessary
~~~ Your patience - the process for creating these beads takes a little longer than my regular beads - from start to finish, once I receive the ashes, expect it to take about 4-6 weeks, allowing for shipping times.

What happens next:
First, I center myself and focus completely on the present. I treat your beloved's remains with absolute honor and respect, and I send good energy to the soul I'm working with.

Once I'm done creating your bead, it goes straight into my digitally-controlled kiln, where it is annealed (controlled cooling). This vitally important step of the process allows the glass molecules to re-organize themselves into a more stable, durable structure.

Upon completion, your bead and remaining ashes will be returned to you. The bead will be nestled safely in a padded gift box. Finished beads will be sent via USPS Priority Express Mail, which includes tracking and delivery confirmation.

USPS regulations require that cremated remains be labeled as such, and shipped via Priority Express. Priority Express service is the fastest, most secure delivery method for your memorial pieces. My shipping rates reflect the cost of this service.

...

If you're planning to scatter the ashes, please consider keeping a little in a safe place (about two tablespoons). This is so I may make you another memorial bead if this bead is lost or damaged, or should you decide you want to order an additional bead.

Shipping policies

I guarantee my work and am happy to combine multiple purchases to minimize shipping costs.

USPS regulations require that cremated remains be labeled as such, and shipped via Priority Express. Priority Express service is the fastest, most secure delivery method for your memorial pieces. My shipping rates reflect the cost of this service.

International buyers are responsible for any and all duties or customs charges that may be applied to your item(s).

Most items from my shop ship in a kraft jewelry gift box tied with pretty ribbons, inside a bubble wrap envelope. I do recycle & reuse mailing materials whenever and wherever possible.

Not in the US? I'm happy to ship internationally - just convo me with your address so that I may figure up the correct and current shipping charges for you.

Additional policies

I do my best to take the most accurate photos possible, but glass and shiny things are notoriously difficult to photograph. Any white spots in the photos are a reflection on the surface of the glass, and not part of the bead(s) or jewelry. Also - please keep in mind that computer monitors differ in resolution, clarity, and color representation.

Each piece is thoroughly cleaned and inspected before I sell it or use it in my jewelry designs.
