Description

Have you heard the wild notes of a reed flute floating over the grasses on a lazy summer day? Then come say hello to the Great God Pan, lord of forests, meadows, shepherds, wild places, and all which dwell therein.

Pan, hailing from the region of Arcadia in ancient Greece, is the original lover of wine, women, song, and laughter. He was born to a nymph who ran screaming away from her goat-footed child--but his father was the god Hermes, who loved his laughing, mischief-filled son, as did the rest of the Olympian gods.

Pan is known for being both a shy, somewhat moody loner and a hard partier, constantly chasing nymphs who are not always inclined to return his affections. In the children's classic "The Wind in the Willows," he emerges as a gentle lord of the forest who helps Rat and Mole find the little otter Portly, who has gone missing.

This gentler version of Pan is the one who showed up for this portrait, a one of a kind, needle felted creation, handmade by myself. The dimensions are 13 by 11 inches; the needle felted frame is 1-1.5 inches deep . Materials are various shades of merino wool felted onto a poly-fiber base; there is a green cord on the back for hanging on the wall.

While other images of Pan may be born in my studio from time to time, each one is a unique OOAK creation. There will be no other portrait of Pan like this one.

I ship by USPS, either First Class Mail or Priority, depending on the size of the package. Maryland residents will have 6% sales tax added.
