Classic Book, The Autobiography of Benvenuto Cellini 1952 Edition by Fine Editions Press

Description

Cellini's autobiographical memoirs, which he began writing in Florence in 1558, give a detailed account of his singular career, as well as his loves, hatreds, passions, and delights, written in an energetic, direct, and racy style. They show a great self-regard and self-assertion, sometimes running into extravagances which are impossible to credit. He even writes in a complacent way of how he contemplated his murders before carrying them out.

The autobiography is a classic, and commonly regarded as one of the most colorful; it is certainly the most important autobiography from the Renaissance. This excellent translation of the honest if self-aggrandized life of the epitomal sixteenth-century Renaissance man ranks among the greatest autobiographies ever written.

Cellini's autobiography is one of the books Tom Sawyer mentions as inspiration while freeing Jim in The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn.

Translated by John Addington Symonds
Introduction by David B. Guralnik

This book is in fairly good condition, the spine and all pages are intact and tight. The spine is richly ornamented with deep burgundy and gold lettering. It may be a thin leather or cloth to look like leather but shows a little shelf wear at the top and bottom of the spine which can be seen in the pictures. The top edges of the pages are gilded, truly a nice book to add to your collection if you don't mind a little bit of age showing. It is one of a matching set of books I have been and will be listing over the next few weeks (see last two pictures.) If you are interested in more than one of this series, please contact me for pricing and shipping costs.

Whether you want this book to read or just as a beautiful piece of home or office decor, it is one you will truly love.

This classic book measures 5.5" (14 cm) by 8.25" (21 cm) and contains 371 pages. It is free of markings except for the original owner's name printed on the flyleaf.

I ship internationally, and if I should overcharge by more than $1.00 I will refund the excess. In the US, this will be shipped media mail unless you contact me to adjust the shipping to a more expensive rate..

Thank you for looking, and please come back soon. I will be adding items daily. You'll never know what you will find at www.etsy.com/shop/lovenstuff14

beautiful first edition book - in a delicate state but a treasure piece. I am getting married in Provence and plan to incorporate this book into the photos.
