Description

Medieval Central Europe traditional costume XVI century

This kit consists of three items - surcoat, kirtle dress, chemise.
Materials are linen, linen and ... linen :)
This time we went after the character with direct historical correspondence - garb of one of The Myrrhophores from The Crucifixion (around 1540), painting by Anton Woensam von Worms.
This dress is rather typical for Germanic or Dutch woman not of noble origin in the first part of the XVI century.
Multiple layers and the costume's silhouette in general denote its owner living in cloven and following fashion, though materials, colouration of cloth and lack of rich finishing speak for her base descent. Such clothes could be worn by substantial townee or farm mistress.

Surcoat (yellow on photo)
This dress has short sleeves and full skirt with descending silhouette. Bodice and sleeves have lining made of thin linen, wide skirt (9 meters/9.84 yards round at the bottom) also is lined on the inside with the narrow linen ribbon. Short and ample dresses can be draped with the thin lace to display the underlining and still they can be worn without it. Thick bodice of the dress is as tight as possible, low square neckline according to the fashion of the period hardly hides shoulders and bust and full skirt emphasizes movingly feminine curves of the stature.
Materials: linen, thin linen.
Features:
- square neckline;
- wide short falling off sleeves;
- thin linen lining (natural on photo);
- wide skirt (9 meters/9.84 yards round a bottom of the dress).

Kirtle Dress (wine red on photo)
We've added touch of elegance to the classic kirtle dress. This is a late version of the kirtle with severing wide cross-cut skirt that provides beautiful bell-shaped silhouette and suits any type of women stature. Dress also has corset bodice that shapes dainty waistline and high bust. The low square neckline emphasizes wearer's charms. In our version fastener is relocated to the back to avoid its occurrence through the fabric of the surcoat but at the same time allowing draw tight the waistline (which is impossible with the help of double side lacing). We also made a bit more delicate sleeves comparing to the original dress at the painting. And finished them with the decorative yet functional fastening with the help of tiny metal buttons. The contrast fabric of the chemise seen in splits between the buttons provides dress with more detailed and festive look. Balloon sleeve top is attached to the arm-hole with three laces which allow adjustment of the level of sleeve top fixation.
Materials: linen, corset bones.
Features:
- corset bodice;
- low square neckline;
- wide skirt;
- back lacing;
- detachable balloon sleeves;
- sleeve fastening - 5 brass buttons.

Chemise (white on photo)
This classic chemise is made of thin linen thereby beautifully falls off with plenty minor folds. The chemise is deeply gathered at neck, has small slit at the back seam and flowing ample silhouette. In Central Europe such shirt was obligatory for low dresses of the XVIth century to modestly hide tempting curves of the wearer. Chemise also had prolonged volume sleeves fixed at the wrist with the help of casing.
Material - softened thin linen.
Features:
- gathered around the neck;
- gathered loose fit sleeves;
- volant cuff with casing.

Please choose surcoat and dress color in dropping menu; chemise comes in white color. You can see all linen colors here https://www.etsy.com/listing/108917723/available-fabrics-armstreet

1st, I think the material is amazing. I love the dress. Customer service was AMAZING. The item shipped pretty fast with custom ordering and they even double checked a measurement for me. The down side, I am shaped like an hourglass, this material left no room based on my small waist to get my bust or hips through the opening so when I tried to wiggle my arms through it ripped at the seam. No biggie it was a single stitch line easy to fix. 1st day wearing it, someone stepped on the green skirt train and it tore a hole in it. It was another single stitch so easy to fix. The arm holes are really tight/small and caused some bruising. Was tight on my sister and she's half my size.
In all I really love it. I just think there are some areas maybe to improve on, like everything in life. I will certainly order from armstreet again.

If the lacing has metal rings - do not use aggressive chemical detergents to avoid rusting, as they may destroy the protective covering on the metal. Separate items into whites, bright and dark before laundering.
Turn items inside out before laundering.

- Linen: Presoaking is not recommended. Do not use bleach. Do not wash in hot water, do not use hot tumble drying. To prevent color fading, use detergent for colored laundry. You can use machine wash in the delicate mode at a temperature no higher than 30 degrees (30°С=85°F). To avoid shrinkage use the shortest spin cycle. Dry items flat, away from sunlight. Do iron when fabric is slightly damp.

- Brocade: All the same and moreover: do not wring out before drying; do iron inside out.

- Cotton: All the same, but you can use machine drying. You can also use any conditioner for natural fabrics for fabric softening.
