A great pattern for two contrasting colors of yarn. The striped border is reminiscent of our local boardwalk. The border is knit first, then stitches are picked up along one edge to knit the body. Short rows are used to create the graceful shaping.

Every technique is clearly explained: increasing, decreasing, short rows and picking up stitches.
Included in the pattern are photos, a complete list of abbreviations, a stitch glossary and schematic.
Skill level: Advanced beginner to intermediate.

Needles & Notions
Needles used were 2 sizes larger than recommended on label, 32in or longer circular needle.
3 ring stitch markers
2 locking stitch markers
Tapestry needle

Yarn: Approximately 415yds color A and 145yds color B are needed.

Gauge: Measured in stockinette stitch. The shawl is worked at a looser gauge than recommended on the label. 17 to 18 sts = 4in/10cm using DK weight yarn.

Sizes: Your knitting may result in different measurements.
 Before blocking: 16in/40.5cm at center, 62in/157.5cm wide.
 After blocking: 20in/51cm at center, 76in/193 wide.

Notes: The “boardwalk” border is worked from end to end in a stockinette stitch, reverse stockinette stitch pattern creating some texture, with tapered ends. The body is worked by picking up stitches along one side of the border, and knitting short rows. Center decreases are also worked every 10 rows.

This is a gorgeous pattern. I love the wedges of stockinette, and the points on the one side, and just the asymmetry of it. I just finished knitting it in Casablanca (peacock), which has a long color change and worked really well. The pattern is easy to follow - very clear and complete. I found a row counter a very useful companion for knitting this. It knits up quickly, and the pattern of it quickly becomes second nature. Very pleased...
