This is a slightly less nerdy tea set than the other one, but still good for anyone who has a bit of Hobbit blood in their veins. I painted in in the spirit of home and comfort, good food, good ale, and good tea, so that as you pour a cuppa, you can thank your lucky stars that you are safe at home with your kettle, rather than off on some dangerous adventure.

The set contains one medium sized tea pot (olive green), four medium sized mugs (dark brown), and a milk/sugar set (mustard brown). The details are as follows:

The tea pot: This guy is not small, but neither is he huge. There is roughly enough room inside to fill all four cups 3/4ths of the way full. So, perfect to leave room for milk! Top and bottom of the pot bear the metallic gold, copper, and silver vines that accent all the pieces, and on one side I have painted the word "TEA" in hobbit LOTR font. On the opposite side is Bilbo's very characteristic quote,

"Bother burgling and everything to do with it! I wish I was back home in my nice hole by the fire, with the kettle just beginning to sing!" -Bilbo Baggins

All four cups are of medium size, dark, chocolatey brown, with metallic vines around the top, and furling banners on which the quotes are painted.

Cup 1: "I feel that as long as the Shire lies behind, safe and comfortable, I shall find wandering more bearable." -Frodo Baggins

Cup 2: “It's the job that's never started as takes longest to finish.” -Sam Gamgee

Cup 3: “There is one crumb of comfort… we can have breakfast while we wait.” -Merry Brandybuck

Cup 4: "The road goes on for ever; but I can't without a rest. It is high time for lunch." -Pippin Took

The milk and sugar set are a lovely mustard-brown, speckledy shade, and very rustic. Again, they bear the metallic vines, and I painted the words "MILK" and "SUGAR" on them in hobbit font.

The perfect set to drink from on a lovely evening reading indoors, or a morning out on your front porch as you smoke your pipe and wish your stolid, unadventuring neighbors a good morning. Just watch out for wizards who might wish to pull you along on a quest to fight dragons.

All of my work is done with heat-set ceramic paint, which MOSTLY does just fine in the dishwasher. I have recently found evidence that some surfaces are more resistant to the paint than others (namely the hand-thrown clay ones, and non-porous products like Corningware), so if you would like to ensure a long life for your mug, I would recommend hand washing it gently. However, from March 2013, all mugs for sale have been washed at least once in my own dishwasher, and found equal to its treatment.

My default shipping price is for FedEx ground, which I will use unless you tell me otherwise. (They tend to be more careful with mugs, and they deliver in 3-4 days.) If you'd rather a cheaper route, I can also ship US Postal Service, but note that they do take longer to deliver, and are sometimes unkind to fragile parcels. If you want your mug shipped this way, read on to the next paragraph...

When electing USPS shipping, please note at checkout which speed you want: Slowest or Fastest. The slowest rate usually ends up around $3 or $4 per mug (obviously much more for a tea set), and seems to take a good long time to arrive. The fastest rate averages at about $8 per mug, and takes a week or so. ***If you choose USPS, I will refund you the extra AFTER the mug ships.*** This way, I can give you an accurate reimbursement.

The US Postal Service has recently doubled its rates for international shipments, which has a very unfortunate impact on things like mugs bound for overseas destinations. As far as I can tell, prices stay reasonable (ish) as long as the package weighs less than 4lbs. Message me if you'd like a weight estimate before you buy.

Note: I have overpriced my international rates to compensate for fluctuations in box weight, so it is likely that you will receive a refund after your parcel ships. I apologize for the difficulty in guessing rates in advance. (This is especially true for tea sets.)

Frequently asked questions about OpheliasGypsyCaravan

All my pieces are scavenged from various stores, and I hand paint each one, so the short answer is 'no.' But if you'd like a reproduction of a past design on a different mug, I can absolutely do that. Please read my custom mug listings to see which one fits your needs: https://www.etsy.com/listing/109863641/simple-custom-mug-you-choose-the-quote?ref=shop_home_feat_2 ; https://www.etsy.com/listing/90199344/complex-custom-mug-you-choose-the-quote?ref=shop_home_active_5
That all depends on what I can find locally. Like sold mugs, I can't often (if ever) reproduce an exact duplicate of a sold item, but sometimes I can find similar pieces to paint the same way. These sorts of custom projects usually take a long time, mostly because the actual finding of the pieces is a long and involved process, but if you're willing to wait a bit, please get in touch and we'll chat about options!
Usually, when I post a large collection of mugs, I do it all at once, and alert my Facebook followers and mailing list of their availability. Since time tends to be of the essence in those situations, I don't measure each cup's liquid volume, because that takes a lot of time. But if you'd like to know the size of any given mug, feel free to message me! In general, mugs I classify as "Small" tend to be 6-10 ounces, "Medium," 10-12 ounces, "Large," 14-16 ounces, and "Extra Large," 18 ounces and up.
Absolutely! I have many custom options in my shop, from simple, black-text only mugs, to intricate, complex artwork and mug specifications, to bowls and decorative platters. They can all be found in the MISCELLANY section of my shop. (Please read the descriptions on the listings before you place your order.)
This question is one I still cannot satisfactorily answer, even after eight years of experience with these paints. The paint brand, Pebeo, claims that they are dishwasher safe, which is true in some respects. I have some mugs that I have been washing in the dishwasher for years, that are still mostly just fine. And yet, I think the dishwasher in question and the mug itself both impact how well the paint will stand up to that sort of washing. (In some cases, I think the detergent coats the paint over time, and even preserves it.)

On the other hand, I have seen mugs whose owners only hand-wash sustain significant damage from scrubbing. If you want to hand wash, take care to scrub ONLY the inside of the mug, and never the artwork itself.
Unfortunately, my mugs are not really wholesale material. They take me so long to paint that I really must ask the full price I charge for them, and can't discount for the sake of wholesale.
