yarrow flowers, achillea millefolium, dried yarrow

This yarrow is organically grown by me in a pristine NH wildflower meadow that has never been tilled, sprayed or grazed. It has been quickly solar dried and leaves and flowers stripped from stalks. This yarrow was harvested summer 2019.

You will receive 1 ounce of lightly crushed yarrow flowers and foliage in a food grade zip lock bag. I leave my herbs as whole as possible so you can see what they are, and they also retain their qualities longer if you do not grind them up.

An unassuming and common wildflower, yarrow, or achillia millefolium, has been used since ancient times both internally and externally. It is named after Achilles, the mythical Greek hero who used it to staunch the wounds of his injured soldiers. Hence the alternative names of Soldiers Woundwort, Staunchweed, Carpenters Weed and Knights Milfoil.

Yarrow is of the aster family, and closely related to chamomile, daisies, ragweed and chrysanthemums. It grows in sunny meadows and dry slopes and is usually white although pale pink can be found. It is edible, with a strong sage flavor. The feathery, fern like leaves and flowers are used fresh or dried, in teas, tinctures, extracts, infusions, capsules, salves, balms and hair products. We can not advise the medicinal uses of herbs on Etsy so please research your needs with a reputable herbalist.

Besides its versatile medicinal qualities, growing yarrow as a companion plant improves the health of nearby plants, enhancing their essential oil content and improving soil fertility. With all of these qualities, yarrow is an important ingredient for herbalists.

Wiccans and modern witches use yarrow for divination in spells, and an ancient poem describes the use of yarrow in seeking a future mate. An ounce of yarrow was sewn up in a flannel cloth and placed under the pillow with this incantation:
Thou pretty herb of Venus tree
Thy true name it is yarrow
Now who my bosom friend must be
Pray tell me thou tomorrow.

Yarrow should not be used by pregnant women or those allergic to plants in the aster family. Please check with your health care provider to make sure any herbal supplements do not interfere with your regular medications.

Wildcrafted herbs grow in the fields, woods and wetlands where they are in contact with rain, wind, soil, insects, birds, snakes, frogs, rabbits, deer, toads, turtles, woodchucks and other wild creatures. I collect, rinse, dry, process, and store these herbs indoors as cleanly as I can but I can not control what may have come into contact with these plants during their life cycle.

I make no claims about the content of these herbs besides their species, nor do I advise how they should be used. I sell all natural wild grown or garden grown plants, free of pesticides, fertilizers, or any type of chemicals. They are not sterile, they are not sold in an airtight container and can not be legally called "food quality" nor can medical cures be promised. How they are prepared and used is up to you and at your own risk.

All herb sales final so please be sure of your purchase.
