We are proud to present these vintage advertising brochures from Milwaukee Gas Light Co. & The Sands Manufacturing Company of Cleveland, Ohio, which represent Rust Belt Americana! One brochure was found inside the other, so we are selling them together.

Both vintage advertising pieces are in black & white, with spot color. The smaller brochure, circa 1920s, has orange spot color printing. The larger, circa late 1920s or 1930s, has blue spot color. There are illustrations and photographs as can be seen in the photographs.

The smaller brochure from Milwaukee Gas Light Company promotes the new convenience of gas water heaters:

"Will you go through another summer without ready hot water?"

"With these heaters you have hot water on tap day and night"

"No need to heat water for your washing, your dishes... Once a woman has become used to the convenience of an automatic gas water heater she cannot conceive how she could ever get along without it."

Most all of the heaters shown are by Sands; one on the back is called a Bryant Storage System. Also shown on this page, a small photo of one such installation "in the residence of Mr. W.R. Kramer, 637 Van Buren St."

This brochure measures roughly 9 by 4 inches when fully closed. (A traditional folded brochure size.)

The larger vintage promotional piece for Sands Automatic Storage Heaters is titled "Bulletin N. 70." There are the "reasons why" one should get such a heater, including descriptions of the cast iron & "japanned" construction. "Our hair felt covering has been determined by U.S. Bureau of Standards to be more efficient as an insulating material against loss of radiation than either air cell asbestos, or ground cork, of equal thickness."

This piece gives the address of Sands Manufacturing at 5407 Sweeney Avenue, Cleveland, Ohio, U.S.A.

This larger brochure measures approximately 11 and 1/2 inches by 9 inches.

The Milwaukee Gas Company's location is listed on the larger (blue) brochure as 182 Wisconsin Street, Milwaukee, Wisc. Inside the smaller (orange) one, the units are listed as "demonstrated in operation at the Gas Appliance Building, Wisconsin and Jackson Streets, Milwaukee."

Conditions: Both pieces have creases and small chips with teeny tears to the edges of the paper. There are a few penciled marks on the larger (blue) brochure. No tears or other markings. Overall, very modest signs of age / wear for these rare pieces. Very nice to display & show off. Please view photos and ask questions prior to making your purchase.
