Additional policies

All of my items are handturned by me on my lathe from my design. Everything is made from a single piece of wood unless clearly specified in the listing description.

I take great pride in the quality of my finish work. My descriptions state that my work is “smooth and silky to the touch”, and this is true. Each of my pieces is meticulously sanded until the wood is so silky smooth that it shines. My work is then rubbed with tung oil and polished with paste wax.

Tung oil is a drying oil obtained by pressing the seed from the nut of the tung tree. It penetrates the grain of the wood and hardens to a transparent low-gloss varnish. Tung oil protects the wood and enriches the color of the wood grain by giving it a permanent “nourished” appearance without the “coated” look that can result from many varnishes. I typically apply two to three coats of tung oil, and I’ll apply a coat or two of paste wax for additional shine.

Paste wax consists primarily of carnauba wax. Carnauba is made of the leaves of the carnauba palm that grows in Brazil. It is known as the "queen of waxes"; it is applied in paste form in thin layers and each coat is polished to a gloss as it dries. It is a hard, durable, glossy wax that protects the wood and enhances its beauty.
