Frequently asked questions about DottieMaeVintage

Sizing has changed dramatically over the years and vintage sizing can be tricky. I provide exact measurements in inches for all of my garments and am happy to provide additional measurements upon request. I also include the modern day estimated size such as XS, Small, medium and large in order for you to better find your size through Etsy search. Often times this is contrary to what the tag reads due to the evolution of sizing. If you would like to know the actual number or letter size on a vintage tag I am happy to oblige! Just send me a convo and I will get that info to you provided the garment has a size tag. If you are unsure if an item will fit compare the listed measurements to a similar garment from your wardrobe that fits you well.
Vintage apparel generally requires more delicate care. When in doubt dry cleaning or hand washing in cold water with a mild soap is best. Special items like fur, sequins, leather and silk should be cleaned by a professional.
I wrap all of my orders in white acid free tissue paper. Items are shipped in boxes or White Tear-Proof Polyolefin Mailing Envelopes depending on their size and fragility. I make every effort to reduce my carbon foot print and use recycled materials when available.
I do not hold or reserve items but I am happy to set up a lay away plan with my customers in installments of three or less within a three month window by request.
I list the condition of every piece in my shop. In order to better understand how my grading effects each individual piece I have provided a break down of some of the verbiage I use in each listing.

Mint: Perfect, pristine, no signs of wear.
Excellent minty shape: Like new, no flaws to report.
Excellent: May have a few inconspicuous repairs or flaws but has strong structural integrity
Good: Absolutely wearable condition but item has some more visually obvious flaws and shows signs of heavier wear.
Fair: Numerous noted flaws, some significant, possibly repairable/wearable
Poor: Damaged beyond repair with value as a study piece, not wearable.
Rest assured that all items from my shop come from a pet and smoke free environment. They are steamed and stored in a meticulously clean room devoid of potentially fading sunlight. I also carefully monitor the humidity in my home and utilize a dehumidifier and air filter to protect and extend the lives of my precious vintage. My philosophy regarding cleaning is that the less a garment encounters soap and chemicals the longer it will last. Therefore I strive to use non soap/chemical methods for cleaning unless absolutely necessary. Please be aware that vintage lived another life in another time and that despite care textiles undergo an ageing process.
I model my vintage apparel on a size US 4 dress form which is the equivalent of a US XS. Items that are a bigger size than my dress form are pinned to fit with effort taken to retain the true shape of the garment.
Please do not remove tags prior to making returns. All tags must be attached and in their original condition as well as the item itself to be eligible for a return. In addition, shipping expenses are non refundable unless an error on my part was made
