Highlights
This is the Full set of 12 Volumes (confusingly bound in 6 books of The Museum of Sciences and Art by Dionysius Lardner. They are all first editions although they are not all the same date. The books were first printed between 1954 and 1856.
They are in very good condition although with some bumping to the corners and top of the spines and some damage to the edges of the board. The set is bound in half leather and the title is stamped on the spine. The title to Vols 9-10 has been lost. although the embossing to the leather is still clear. The text blocks a re all solid and as far as I can tell complete with no marks. There is some minor foxing.
Lardner was quite a character. He was married three time and his last marriage involved a scandal which ended up in the courts. Nonetheless he was an important academic and served a term as a professor at UCH. Famously he was involved in a number of arguments with the noted Engineer Brunel on each time coming out on the worst side.
A set like this is listed on ABE Books for £300 and a later edition for more than 400.
