Description

A wedding shawl or 'odhni' from the Thar Desert region of India in the State of Rajasthan. The background cloth is 2 strips of red hand loomed linen/cotton cloth hand sewn together lengthwise. The shawl is embroidered mostly in cross stitch and satin stitch. Predominantly colors are red and orange-yellow with a touch of purple and beige. Embellished with lots of large and small mirrorwork. The field has a lovely abstract floral design and very attractive border design.

Please note that this is a museum quality piece with a wonderful visual impact not easily found today. And the designation “Authentic” means that it was made by the locals used by them and not made in view of the tourism industry.

SIZE: 130 cm x 186 cm ( 51.18” x 73.22”)
CONDITION: EXCELLENT. No stains, no holes, only a few mirrors lacking. It seems as if it has not been quite finished and therefore never used. To the best of my knowledge this piece is at least 60-70 years old. Backside of piece is seen on photo no. 5.

A truly lovely piece. Use it as a wall hanging, a throw, a bedspread or a table cloth.

It is part of a dowry tradition which is retained by settlers in the north western area of India in the State of Rajasthan. In addition to the usual gifts of jewelry and household utensils, a bride would bring to her husband's home richly embroidered textiles, which she and the women of her family have worked on for many years.

If any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Returns and exchange details

I really wish you to be pleased with your purchase. I try to list the items from my personal collection as honestly and accurately as possible with several photos to describe the condition. Considering the old vintage and antique nature of some of the textiles and objects in my shop, a certain amount of wear and tear, minor damage, repair and maybe few stains may be present. However, every aspect of the condition of each single piece will be described in detail under item description in the shop.

Customer satisfaction is very important to me, so please feel free to contact me for any questions you might have. I look forward to help you.

RETURNS
Since the items come from my personal collection I consider all sales final. I encourage you to ask all questions before buying and please review all photos carefully.

Shipping policies

I send orders within 1- 3 days upon receipt of payment. All items will be carefully wrapped and packaged. I'm happy to combine postage to save you money. Any overpayment will be returned after shipping.

I only charge you for the actual shipping expenses and packaging is always on my expense - timewise and finacially.

Post Nord's international delivery aim is 5-7 days, however Customs and Duties Services can create delays, so please be patient.
