Description

I love incorporating true antique/vintage components to my creations. I did this with "Sea Side" and if you want to know details, you can read this long listing. (:
Truly OOAK, makes a great gift, stocking stuffer (if it is a big stocking - definitely beats an apple!) for the beach lover or beachcomber. And you can add your own "message in a bottle" if you choose!^^^^ (See below towards listing end for how this would work.)^^^^ Unique décor for a beach tablescape, seaside wedding, makes a good wedding momento or can double as a bridesmaid gift. (Listing is for bottle creation only. The sea fan, murex, and clams shells are to show how you can incorporate this bottle in a vignette. The fan & clams are for sale in separate listings in my shop SeaSeaRider.)
THE INSPIRATION! This is one of my Original Sea Mail Series creations named "Sea Side". In the late 1800s and early 1900s, people called what we call the "beach" today the "sea side." You will notice this on very old postcards. Many coastal areas had & luckily some still have marshes, barrier islands, and inlet that separated the mainland from the sea. So the first land's edge next to the water, like the an area that faced a creek or marsh with a barrier island on the other side of the water, was called the beach. Sea side was just what it says, beside the actual sea. The coast of South Carolina has many wonderful areas like this. Hence the name "Sea Side" for my creation!

What is better than an old bottle, a vintage sea image, two original sea themed postal stamps (One is from Australia, other country name is covered) and wonderful original rare aqua 1930s game pieces in super nostalgic letter font. These are thick matte cardboard and add depth to the bottle surface. And all have salt worn touches giving it a subtle sea-glass frosted look!
DETAILS!
This wonderful original clear antique medicine bottle features a vintage Mid Century postcard image of a bathing beauty soaking up the rays. This image is from my extensive antique/vintage postcard collection. I was drawn to use this as it reflects the mood behind one of my favorite sayings that you will read at some point if you visit my shop SeaSeaRider, "May you always have the beach to yourself..." Image was reproduced from a vintage postcard.
Stamped "Sea Mail", it is finished to look as if it has traveled the currents, like a message in a bottle. Complete with a hand made seashell/coral stopper, it also has a shell "backpack" composed of an old South Carolina oyster shell, a thin opaque jingle shell (because they are thin and jingle when the tide rolls over them!) topped with a tiny coral chunk. Both the stopper and the "backpack" can be moved around to face/hang respectively on any side you choose. (Zoom 5th pic to see shells hanging on backpack. Picture 3 shows a close up and the bottle sea-salted finish.) No matter which angle you view this bottle from, there is something to see so it would work well in the center of a table. A shell remnant with sea worn holes and a tiny sea star are attached to back as if picked up along the way like a hitchhikers! All shells were beachcombed by me on the beaches of South Carolina & Southwest Florida. "Beach Days" on the back and "Sea Side" on the front are made with the vintage cardboard letters from the 1930s. In keeping with some of the old mid century motels, "Beach Days" is displayed vertically, like the deco inspired ones from the 1940s & 50s.
One side is stamped "FRAGILE" with an actual vintage wooden handled stamp. Love using real old tools & true vintage components in my creations!
Bottle measures 7 1/2" tall (9" including the stopper) by 3 1/4" wide by 2 1/8". .Nice thick heavy glass, no cracks or chips, just some slight signs of wear. Bottle has been cleaned & sanitized but I have left some brown/green remnants on the inside as it looks like "seaweed" or sea encrustations it picked up on its travels in the ocean currents. I've added a sealer to the image that gives a sea-salted, frosty look in spots. The night lighting in my photos makes it look darkened in some areas but it is not dark.
On the backside, you will see shadow effects of 3 baby seahorses as if they are swimming inside for a ride in the bottle.
Images have been sealed with an archival matte sealer.

Bottle has no markings, has rounded edges, and is the type that would have used a cork or stopper as there are no screw marks for a screw top.
Wonderful sea-inspired decor for the sea lover. Would look great standing on a shelf, for a take-me-away moment on your desk, by the bath tub, or sitting on a bedside table. This is also fun to use in beach themed tablescapes.

^^^^You can add your own MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE whether it be a greeting for Christmas, Mother's Day , Birthday, goodbye message, marriage proposal, a poem , etc. Open for your imagination!
Stopper doesn't seal the bottle but fits down in neck and can easily be removed to add your message. You would roll up the message on small paper and have it remain sticking out the top so it could be removed easily as you don't want to have to break the bottle!^^^^

I have sold some for weddings as they make great table décor for a beach reception and can also double as gifts for bridesmaids. Or the bride can keep all as momentos as no two of my Sea Mail creations are ever identical. If you are interested in me doing a custom order, convo me and we'll talk. I would need some advance notice, more or less depending on what I have "in the hopper" and also time to find the right vintage bottles. Combo shipping really saves you on these as I can get several in a Priority medium flat rate or large flat rate.

Questions always welcome!

** This shipping rate is for Priority Medium Flat Rate anywhere in the U.S. Depending on what the items are, I can add them to this box for no additional charge. Convo for shipping outside US if you are brave! I am willing but unfortunately our international rates have sky rocketed!
