The name of St Patrick means "high-born", from the latin "Patricius". He was born around 390 in Scotland. Captured and brought to Ireland as a slave, he escaped and returned home. Later, he returned to Ireland, bringing Christianity to its people. His feast day is March 17.
Saint Patrick is most often recognized for likening the Trinity to a shamrock, illustrating that the shamrock has three parts, and yet is one; in a similar way, the Trinity has three persons, and is still one God.

ABOUT THE TECHNIQUE:
I painted the icon with tempera over stucco canvas mounted on wood panel. Used gold leaf for the background and dark stain for the sides. The icon is sealed with varnish to protect ti from dust and make it easier for cleaning.

Measurements: 6 by 4 inches , and approx 1 inch thick. (10x14cm)
