Of "Passages Toward the Dark" by celebrated poet Thomas McGrath, two reviews by fellow poets praising the book and its author are quoted on the rear cover:

|> This book contains some of the most marvelous poems ever written to children, "The Letters to Tomasito", as well as continuations of "Letter to Imaginary Friend", by one of the great masters of the narrative in the twentieth century. In McGrath a commitment to rebellious vision leads us - leads us, paradoxically, deeper into the human, into the humorous, into a sort of Irish joy of life. <| ... Robert Bly

|> Tom McGrath's sense of reality rests in the land, and his singular eye is always exploring it and the possibilities of direction within it. At times he can seem like Roethke or Yeats or Thomas or Neruda, yet he's consistently his own man. His lines build like Japanese terracing. He's one of the most visionary poets of people on the land that we presently have. <| ... Larry Woiwode
