Description

Sci Fi Genre Books: "Slave Ship" Frederik Pohl, 1969 printing, Robert Foster Cover art, Ballantine paperback scifi novel

ABOUT THE STORY (wikipedia):
----------------------------------------------
Slave Ship is a 1956 short science fiction novel by Frederik Pohl, originally serialized in Galaxy.

The scene is a world in the throes of a low-intensity global war, which appears to be an amplified representation of the Vietnam War, in which the U.S. was just beginning to be involved. The plot involves telepathy, speaking to animals, and, in the last few pages, an invasion by extraterrestrials.

The nominal adversaries in the novel are known as "cow-dyes", a corruption of Caodai, a religion of Vietnamese origin. On the American side, telepaths, who are used in espionage and other covert activities, are falling victim to "the glotch", a fatal affliction which is believed to be a Caodai bio-weapon, transmitted telepathically.

Reception
------------------
Galaxy reviewer Floyd C. Gale praised the novel as "an authentically convincing picture of a wartime navy and . . . a think-tank tickler."[1] Anthony Boucher reported Slave Ship to be "at once fascinating and disappointing." Boucher praised Pohl for his "Heinleinesque skill in the detailed indirect exposition of a convincing future," but faulted the novel as episodic, weakly characterized, and arbitrarily resolved.

-----------------

This paperback is in nice condition - no writing marks inside or out apparent. The text block edges retain their nice light orange stain w/o fades. Slightest hint of tanning on edges inside as to be expected for a 40+ year old mass market paperback. Lower front corner on cover has a slight corner crease, light crease along spine edge on cover. Binding is tight and square, no loose pages.

FAQs

In most cases, I can offer combined shipping discounts on multiple items.

You do not need to do anything. Place your order for your items, and when I am fulfilling your order, I will credit back excess shipping fees to your account.
If an item gets stalled in transit, let me know. I can open a case with USPS to track it down. Please allow 2 weeks for me to work with USPS to locate your package.

If a package is marked "Delivered" but you did not get it, let me know. I will call your P.O. to speak with the carrier directly or have them check the GPS scan on the package. If theft is suspected, I will ask you to file a Stolen Mail Claim with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and your local law enforcement. These records are essential to help catch mail thieves.

If an item arrives damaged, hold on to all packing materials. I require photographs of the damaged item and the packing materials to refund. I may ask that the item be returned to me at my expense.
If you notice the error prior to receiving the shipping notice, let me know ASAP.

Unfortunately, once a package is shipped out to an incorrect address, there is little I can do to get it back.

Please make sure your address within Etsy is correct before finalizing your order.
Art & Prints:

To request a return, please contact me within 7 days of delivery. Late requests may be declined.

The item must be returned to me in the same condition as when we sent it - I.E - "as new", salable condition - for a refund. Return shipping at buyers expense.

Refunds will be credited upon our receipt of the item.

I recommend that you purchase tracking and insurance for the return package, as items lost during return shipping not insured are sadly: lost.

Refunds are for the item price only.

As per our policies page, we are diligent about our descriptions, and in more than 7 years on Etsy, have never had a return.
