This Denim and Leather mug is a nice-sized mug that holds 10 ounces. The unglazed handle is really easy to hold onto. I'm really loving the feel of the unglazed clay.

This Denim and Leather mug was thrown on the wheel using red stoneware. Before completely dry, the mug was tooled with leather tools. The piece was bisqued to over 1900 degrees. Glaze was applied and the piece was then fired to nearly 2200 degrees.

All of my glazes are food safe, dishwasher safe, microwave safe, oven safe. I use my own mugs every day. I microwave them, pour hot liquids in them, dishwasher them. They perform beautifully. These mugs will not get hot handles when microwaved.

I'll gladly add a gift box with krinkle cushioning paper if you leave me a note when purchasing.

More about my mugs:
Mug-ology: The study of mugs and drinking from mugs. I made that up...no such thing as mug-ology.

I love coffee and tea, and the experience is even better from a favorite mug. Not all mugs are created equal though, and I’ve done a lot of exploration into what people (my family and friends) think is a comfortable mug, and I’ve read many books on functional pottery to get the experts’ opinions on what makes a great mug. I've made a few dozen trials for my friends and family to try with questions like what do you think of this handle...what do you think of this size...what do you think of this glaze feel, etc., etc.) These are the attributes that strive for in my handmade mugs:

1. The clay cannot be too groggy (sandy feeling) so that the rim is as smooth as possible.
2. The clay must be one that absorbs little to no water when fired to proper temps.
3. The rim is turned out a little but not too much.
4. The rim is thin enough to be comfortable to drink from but not so thin that it chips easily.
5. The cup is thick enough to hold heat or cold from the drink but not so thick as to be too heavy.
6. The mug holds a decent amount…need a big mug when you sit down to read a good book.
7. The glaze must have a good feel.
8. Of course the glaze has to be food safe, microwave safe, and dishwasher safe.
9. The handle has to comfortable…a little flat but rounded edges and slight ridges for gripping.
10. The clay must be fully vitrified so that the handles do not get hot in the microwave.
11. And just as importantly it should be unique and pretty to look at and wonderful to feel.

There’s a lot that goes into the everyday mug - I hope you have or find a favorite one!
