Description

"Pensive Dryad" is the title of this print. According to Greek mythology, dryads were the female spirits of trees. They led supernaturally long lives, but some became an integral part of their tree to the extent that, if the tree died, the dryad died as well. Thus, a mortal who harmed a tree without first propitiating the spirit would be punished by dryads and the Greek gods.

This dryad seems slightly melancholy; though she is smiling, perhaps she is contemplating the peril in which trees in our modern world find themselves (and wishing for the old days when she could strike back . . . ?).

"Pensive Dryad" is printed on Thai Kozo (mulberry paper) using vegetable oil-based ink, which is both permanent and environmentally friendly. I hand print each one using a brayer and wooden spoon, which allows the varying hand pressure to show on the finished image such that no two are exactly alike. Since each print is a one of a kind, your print may vary slightly from the photo.

Open edition print, numbered, titled and signed at the bottom in pencil.

Materials & Dimensions:
Paper: Thai Kozo (mulberry) Paper, 45 gsm
Ink: Vegetable oil-based ink (green and black), permanent, lightfast
Dimensions: image is approx. 8x10, paper is 9x12 including a white border for framing (mat not included)

Your print will be packed securely in a padded envelope sandwiched between cardboard, with a protective glassine sheet. I ship by USPS, either First Class Mail or Priority, depending on the size of the package. Maryland residents will have 6% sales tax added.
