Item details

Vintage from the 19th century

Materials

brass, copper, iron

From Central PA, this wonderful brass Milk Pail was used on farms, and now mostly used for matches and paper, kindling, or pine cones in front of a fire place. These also were used as jelly or jam pans hanging from a forged pot holder in the old open fireplaces.

This pan/pail, has an iron handle, forged and then attached by copper rivets and is in very good condition. There are a few small shallow dents in the bottom, but no splits or holes, and can be used to carry liquids.

The pail measures 12 3/4" diameter by 6" high, with a 1" iron handle that measures 6 3/4" from the rim of the pail. It has a hammered riveted oval on each side.
