Great vintage (pre-1950) German glass cab in excellent condition. The design when looked at from the back side is indented and painted. 28 x 22 mm. (1 1/16 inch x 7/8 inch). These have never been used.
I recently found out that this is a depiction of the Greek myth of the goddess Athena and the weaver Arachne. Athena is in the process of turning Arachne into a spider.

5 out of 5 starsI just love this piece for it's beauty and the meaning behind it! It is, indeed, the depiction of the Greek myth of the goddess Athena and Arachne - both being well know for their weaving of beautiful tapestry. Athena challenged Arachne to see who was the better weaver. Arachne out did her and Athena, in her rage of anger, turned Arachne into a spider and left her to weave her own web.
