'Qing' by Joanna Layla 2013
Limited edition giclee print in a print edition of 50.
'Qing' is from the 'Red is for...' print series. Each image in the series is inspired by original drawings I made in my sketchbooks capturing life in China at the start of 2013, and by Chinese Colour theory.
'Qing' is from a drawing I made of a little boy in the park in Shanghai feeding pigeons - one white, one black.
Chinese colour theory inspired me to think about how colours affect our reading of an image and in this series of illustrations a prism of colour in each image prompts the viewer’s eye to make a reading of the image - to ‘colour in’ the drawing in their mind’s eye. In this image the dominant colour 'Qing' (blue/green) stands for spring, health and harmony.
The ‘Red Is For…’ Series explores Chinese colour theory through 5 illustrations and 1 colour code. Chinese colour theory is based on five key colours that correspond to states of being / emotions / seasons / meanings.
For more see the Chinese Colour Theory code print in this series.
