This Rondo Brand American Sardines label is from the 1920s. It is the first version featuring a concert pianist that the company produced; we also have the second one produced. This beautiful label features the piano player hard at work playing a dramatic piece and measures 2.75” Wide x 4” High. The sardines were packed in pure cottonseed oil.

This sardine label comes from the Sunset Packing Company of West Pembroke, Maine. The Sunset Packing Company started operations in 1900 and was the largest sardine factory in West Pembroke. It also manufactured oils and mustards used to flavor the sardines. The Sunset Packing Co. had to close its doors in 1962 due to competition from Norway. The two versions of this label would look great framed together.

The community I live in, Eastport, Maine was once the Sardine Capital of the World. I'm involved in a significant restoration project -- turning one of the last sardine based industrial buildings into a boutique hotel and retail center. Looking for some models for some decor plans, I decided to seek out vintage sardine labels. This shop had a number of them and I purchased several that are from our area. The owner was helpful, the purchase was easily, the labels arrived in two shipments. They are in pristine condition, glorious original bright colors, and will serve my purpose perfectly. Thank you.
