Woodland Gnome Couple - Scandinavia

Favorite

Description

Many European cultures have folklore that includes little people. The Irish have the leprechaun, the Swedes have the Tomte, & the Norwegians have the Nisse. Unlike trolls, these dimunitive folk, often are referred to as gnomes, & for the most part are friendly. Woodland gnomes are the most common in Scandinavian countries. A typical gnome looks like a miniature person. Gnomes stand about 6" tall. Males often wear a pointed red cap, blue smock, brown pants & felt boots. The female dress slightly more drab, but they do have festive costumes for their dancing parties

In this depiction, the dutiful wife is bringing home a fresh mushroom that will likely become a week's dinner. The male is 7" high. The set includes the two gnomes, a rustic cart & mushroom, all hand-carved.

This enclosed message enhances the carving as a gift or keepsake.
