Highlights
Roman goddess Fortuna is the personification of luck and fortune, both good and bad. Often depicted with a cornucopia symbolizing abundance, she was believed to be capricious, her favor unpredictable and changeable, embodying the volatile nature of fortune itself. Fortuna’s Greek counterpart, Tyche, was the goddess of fortune and prosperity. Tyche was often depicted standing on a wheel, symbolized the fate and fortunes of cities and individuals. Together, these deities underscored the ancients' recognition of life's inherent unpredictability and the limits of human control, illustrating the shared cultural emphasis on the whims of fortune across both Greek and Roman societies. Marina has chosen to amalgamate both Goddesses together in this artwork, with a hint of the wheel of fortune behind the goddess and including the horn of plenty.
Embrace the divine energy of Fortuna/Tyche and invite her blessings into your home. Our prints sit great in either maximalist, Victorian antique bedecked dark home interiors or juxtaposed against a more minimal, white boho space.

🖼 * ABOUT THE ARTIST * 🖼
Marina worked as a professional collage and 3D illustrator for 15 years, with work published in the UK Sunday Times, New Scientist, Mail On Sunday, and Creative Review, among others. In 2010, she became a full-time astrologer with darkstarastrology.com. In 2022, she returned to floral watercolour painting as an antidote to working with computer screens all day. You can see the journey on her instagram profile darkstarmarina.
In 2023, she decided to experiment with AI art and merge all her influences to create an eclectic "Whimsigothic" style for her Goddess art. She does not consider herself an AI artist because although she uses AI-assisted elements in her work, the process is complex. But it is fair to say she is a Photomontage artist using AI-assisted elements.
The final image is a montage of vintage art, digital painting and fantasy AI-generated figures. Primarily, the design is collaged in Photoshop and then hand-painted using the digital painting program Rebelle 7. Each image takes about 2/3 days to complete.
About her process, Marina states, "Although I am heavily influenced by art nouveau, Klimt and other pre-raphaelite artists, the AI image generator I use is my own model. Ie: It was trained using my artwork. So it is unique to me. It is not a question of crafting a word prompt, and then you have a finished piece. My new images are just as handcrafted and involved as my past illustrations."
