Description

A tiger flees from a village with a vicious persimmon on his back. Drawn with a nib and ink and digitally colored, this illustration was created as a part of a series representing Korean animal folk tales.

Print is sized at 9 x 12 inches.

Curious of the story?

"Once a tiger decided to go down to the village to steal a child to eat it. Once he arrived, he hid outside a window and heard a child crying. The mother scolded saying, 'You'd better not cry, the tiger is here, and he'll eat you up!' But the child continued to cry. The tiger thought to himself, 'Hm, this child isn't afraid of me, he must be some sort of hero.' The mother then said, 'Fine, here is a dried persimmon,' and gave the child the sweet fruit and he stopped crying. The tiger became afraid, 'Oh, no, this persimmon must truly be some sort of terrible creature.' He decided not to steal the child and instead eat a yak from the barn. The tiger crept inside, but a thief was already there. The thief had planned to steal a yak, and when he saw the shape of the tiger, jumped on the tiger's back, mistaking him for a yak. 'It's the terrible persimmon come to get me!' thought the tiger and bolted. The thief rode the tiger, beating it to run faster, until morning and it was evident the tiger was not a yak. The thief jumped off and ran away, and the tiger fled never to return to the village again."
