Jasper is a versatile, decorative member of the Quartz family. Jasper is often named for either its pattern or for its location of origin. Many Jaspers have multiple names. Jasper was one of the 12 gems set into the foundations of the city walls of Jerusalem. As Jasper is a natural material, colors and patterns will vary from bead to bead.

Mother of Pearl (MOP) is a hard, iridescent substance that forms the inner layer of certain mollusk shells, and is used for making buttons, beads, pendents, etc. MOP is often bleached and/or dyed to create different colors.

Labradorite is an unusual mineral. It is a grayish-brown stone that has a beautiful bluish-green iridescent play of colors caused by internal fractures in the mineral that reflect light back and forth, dispersing it into different colors. This effect, known as labradorescence, gives Labradorite its appeal and fame. Moravian missionaries discovered it in 1770 and named it for the region in Canada where they found it. In the nineteenth century, deposits found in Russia made labradorite a more popular choice for jewelry.
