3D Printed Repair Axle (front or rear) for Monster Jam Mega RC Truck - Grave Digger Megalodon and Others

If you own this monster truck, odds are you need to keep at handful of these around! I looked at a few sites trying to buy a replacement, but their prices were outrageous for a 1" piece of plastic that would likely break again anyway! So, I ended up 3d printing a replacement for my son, then when he invariably broke the other side, I decided other people could benefit from this. It's such a fun truck, it's just a little too fragile on these axles.

I want this to be a functional solution first and cost effective a close second. If you have any trouble, please contact me and I'll make it right.

IMPORTANT Rear Axle Info

I recently discovered that the rear drive shaft has been modified (much thicker rear metal driveshaft) on newer Mega 1:6 trucks, hence the new drop-down option for the rear. My old truck, on the belly, has the number 66804RX1, which I believe was produced in 2020/21 at the latest. This is the correct model and year for the 'Old' variation and has a much slimmer bottom hole. My old truck also has 'solid' wheels compared to the cutout ones on the new truck (pics), which may make it easier to identify.

The new trucks I have confirmed, have 66816RX as the model. I purchased a new truck yesterday (Jan 2025) just to verify this fix fits as well as the old model. If you recently purchased your truck, this is likely the correct model for you.

When ordering, please specify old or new and verify against the Model number on your truck. If you have a different model number, reach out and we'll see what we can come up with. I'm not affiliated with MEGA in any way, so I am doing my best with the model numbers and changes.

I have confirmed that these parts (front axles too) will fit on any MEGA 1:6 scale monster truck variant, e.g. Grave Digger, El Toro Loco, Megalodon and Spider-Man (at least). It seems the color scheme and body are the only changes and they're otherwise mechanically the same.

He finally broke the rear axle as well. I could only find a $20 oem replacement, so here we are :) This is a new model, very similar to the first. It does fit and has the correct dimensions (including the small screw hole), but it can be *very* tight. This is worst on the metal axle that connects to the gearbox. I'm still tinkering with getting this a little easier; but with some grunt, it does fit! Please also note that because of this, they might look slightly different than the pictures once you receive it.

I will include a panhead screw with the front and rear axles, but I have not yet had a chance to find the smaller screw. I'll update when I do! Also, for the rear, I will do my best to print in black or dark gray, unless otherwise requested. It shows more than the front and doesn't look as cool in other colors, in my opinion.

These are 3d printed using PETG plastic with 100% infill (it's a solid piece of plastic when it's done) and it fits just as well as the original. I've made some revisions to the model, and no longer manually melt the top; giving a better overall finish. I've also found some screws that are the same size and length (but fully threaded), just in case your original is stripped. In working on this, I ended up stripping both screws on both axles of my son's truck since the screw heads are just about as fragile as the axle was!

These may come out a bit ugly or imperfect, but they are strong and will still fit! I do a 'break test' by hand on every one of these; I've not succeeded yet. I only had success on a test model that was at 40% infill, and even then I had to use a pair of pliers to eventually break it.

(Front)I will be printing these in whatever color I have on hand, as you can't see much of the part once it's installed. If you'd like a specific color, please let me know and I'll try my very best to accommodate. I could also spray paint the exposed piece if I can't otherwise accommodate the color you've chosen (please let me know if you'd like this, I won't paint the piece otherwise).

Finally, how do I get this piece on the truck?? Fortunately, it's an incredibly easy fix and only two screws total! One still inside the tire, and another holding the steering arm to the wheel hub. Easy!

Please see the pictures, I have circled in red the screw to remove for the steering arm. Once this screw is out, the broken axle and steering hub should be able to spin all the way around, slide the new one in, spin it back, and reattach the steering arm. Finally, put the wheel back on the new part. Now have a blast and let 'er rip!

(Rear)
The remaining piece of axle should have a small screw about halfway up. Simply remove that screw and slide the piece off. The new one might require some strongarming, but should slide on. Replace the screw you removed, and put the wheel back on. Then -- LET ER RIP!
