Blackberry bushes are self-fertile and will have good blackberry fruit production on their own. For even heavier fruit production, plant a second variety is planted nearby. Upright or erect blackberry bushes should be planted 3 to 5 feet apart in full sun. Plant in soil with a pH level of 6.0 to 6.5 with the crown (where the root system begins) no more than 1/2 inch below the ground's surface. New growth during the first year planted will be the canes that produce flowers and fruit the following growing season. Blackberry plants generally begin producing fruit within 2 to 3 years.

Why are Tissue Culture grown fruiting plants exciting and why should you choose to plant them?
- Consistent Quality - Tissue Culture produced plants are clones of the parent plants and have the same growing characteristics. That is why parent plant selection is key in Tissue Culture. The best of the best plants in each variety are chosen to be cloned.
- Vigor - Because Tissue Culture plants are continually in growth mode their first year, container grown TC plants don't stop growing until frosts hit in fall.
- Superior Branching - Selecting the best of the best for parent stock allows for choosing plants of the varieties that produce stronger branching for more blooms and heavier crops.
- True to Type - Tissue Culture is where plants are reproduced or cloned in a lab to create the exact same plant as the parent plant.

Ouachita Blackberry Shrubs - This is an excellent home garden blackberry bush. The Ouachita produces large, sweet blackberries on its erect upright, thorneless canes.
Ouachita Blackberry ripening begins approximately June 12 (based on the Clarksville, Arkansas area) and their fruiting extends for about five weeks. Ripening season is between that of Arapaho and Navaho blackberries.
Excellent Quality - High Yielding.
