Description

MADNESS IN A BOTTLE

50 years ago "It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World"' was the first movie shown at Hollywood's Cinerama Dome. This mobile sculpture of the hook and ladder sequence contains authentic glass from the car crashed in this "Mad" movie's opening sequence.

From top to bottom you can see likenesses of Mickey Rooney, Peter Falk, Phil Silvers, Spencer Tracy, Sid Caesar, Milton Berle, Buddy Hackett, Terry-Thomas, Dick Shawn, Eddie Anderson and Jonathan Winters on the ladder. Ethel Merman, Edie Adams and Dorothy Provine watch from below with the statue of Abraham Lincoln. All in authentic representations of the costumes worn in the movie. A broken and empty suitcase can be seen by the fire engine. All weighted by the Cinerama Dome, with half or the World below. How could it be complete without this fine piece of glass from Jimmy "The Smiler" Durante's Ford Fairlane500?

Criterion's box set release of this classic comedy was their best selling movie of the year. It's a 5 disk set, complete with a filming locations map I created for you.

Please see the last picture to establish provenance of the fragment. I hiked down the mountain and got it for you!

Approximately 32" high
Approximately 6" wide

This wacky comedy classic directed by Stanley Kramer features one of the largest collections of American comedians ever brought together on celluloid, resulting in the kind of far-out comic gem that only the 1960s could dish out. The plot concerns a caravan of motorists who witness a terrible accident on a dangerously windy California highway. The auto-crash victim (The Smiler) reveals in his dying words that he has hidden a fortune of stolen cash, sending the drivers on a rambunctious race to see who can claim the loot first!
