Description

I created this piece at the request of a family member who wanted me to create something using larimar.

Larimar is a rare and beautiful light blue pectolite stone whose rough is only found in the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic's Ministry of Mining records show that on 23 November 1916 Father Miguel Domingo Fuertes Loren of the Barahona Parish requested permission to explore and exploit the mine of a certain blue rock he had discovered. Pectolites were not yet known in the Dominican Republic and the request was rejected. In 1974, at the foot of the Bahoruco Range, the coastal province of Barahona, Miguel Méndez and Peace Corps volunteer Norman Rilling rediscover Larimar on a beach. Natives, who believed the stone came from the sea, called the gem Blue Stone. Miguel took his young daughter's name Larissa and the Spanish word for sea (mar) and formed Larimar, by the colors of the water of the Caribbean Sea, where it was found. The few stones they found were alluvial sediment, washed into the sea by the Bahoruco River. An upstream search revealed the in situ outcrops in the range and soon the Los Chupaderos mine was formed. Larimar is a type of pectolite, or a rock composed largely of pectolite, an acid silicate hydrate of calcium and sodium. Although pectolite is found in many locations, none have the unique volcanic blue coloration of larimar. This blue color, distinct from that of other pectolites, is the result of copper substitution for calcium.

This necklace features five 10mm larimar rounds, freshwater cultured pearls, faceted German crystals and silver plated round spacer beads. It features a centerpiece pendant of a 10mm larimar round in an antique silver plated bead frame. It is finished with a silver plated small curb chain with silver plated lobster claw clasp and extender chain. The necklace is 20 inches long plus the 2 inch extender chain. This is a rare and beautiful necklace which would make an unusual addition to any woman's jewelry collection.

FAQs

All orders are shipped with insurance and tracking where possible. All orders are packaged carefully to best assure it is delivered in good condition. I package all orders in cotton or polyester filled gift boxes suitable for gift presentation. All orders include a receipt. If the item is shipped as a gift, please leave a note so I can include a gift receipt identifying the buyer but omitting all pricing information. If you wish to have a card or note included at no additional cost, leave instructions in a note with your order.
I am located in Fabulous Las Vegas, Nevada and therefore collect Nevada Sales Tax on all orders shipped to addresses within the State of Nevada. In 2018, new sales tax legislation became effective requiring the collection of sales tax for all orders shipped to the States of Washington and Pennsylvania.
I happily ship to all countries where shipping is available. I ship via USPS. Importation of some items are not allowed by some countries. Please check import restrictions of your country prior to purchasing. I cannot anticipate the time it will take an order to clear customs so I am unable to provide delivery estimates for international shipments. Import fees and VAT are charges levied by countries to support their local industries so they are the responsibility of the buyer and cannot be added to my shipping charges. It is common practice for orders subject to import fees to have additional service charges assessed for the collection of fees. I will only include true information on customs forms and will not mark as gift.
If your order is damaged during shipment, inform me immediately by Etsy Conversation upon receipt. Retain the item and all packaging materials. The insurance investigation may require photos of the item and packaging and an affidavit from the buyer.
