This adorable, beginner-friendly project makes the perfect novelty tomato hat for adults, children, and infants! The pattern comes with six sizes, accommodating head circumferences from 14"-24". Building on the foundation of a classic baker boy hat, this cap design features a stem and leaves to make the wearer's head into a perfectly-ripe heirloom tomato. It also makes for a precious topper for a sewing-themed Halloween costume--add a little needle-sharpening strawberry dangling from the top, and you've got a perfect giant pin cushion hat!

Pattern printing instructions:
Print out the pattern at 100% scale and verify it printed correctly by measuring the test square. Tape the sheets of paper together using the registration marks to align. Cut out all the pattern pieces, following the lines that correspond with your chosen size.

Size chart, reflecting measurements of the finished garment (measure around the head, just above the ears to find head circumference):
Infant small: 14" circumference
Infant medium: 16" circumference
Infant large: 18" circumference
Adult small: 20" circumference
Adult medium: 22" circumference
Adult large: 24" circumference

Tools and Supplies:
-About a yard of fashion fabric (I recommend wool, felt, cotton canvas, or any medium to heavy weight woven or felted material) for the body of the cap, ½ yard of leaf fabric (I recommend anything green, medium-weight, and woven), and ½ yard of lining fabric (I recommend rayon bemberg lining, but anything lightweight and slippery will do the trick)
-Rayon seam binding or double-fold bias tape
-Fusible non-woven interfacing
-Sewing machine
-1 spool of coordinating all-purpose polyester thread
-1 spool of coordinating top-stitching thread (optional)
-Pins
-Fabric scissors and scissors for paper
-Pinking shears
-Iron and ironing board
-Tailor’s ham
-Your preferred tool for marking fabric—tailor’s chalk, heat-erasable pen, pencil, tailor’s tacks, white gel pen, etc.
-Fray Check (optional)

Techniques you may need to be familiar with or be willing to learn:
-Binding raw edge with bias tape
-Understitching
-Topstitching
