Description

A Party Dress For The Future Or The Past – Approx. Size 36/38

This dress is cut in a simple, flattering shape – fitted on the top, flared out from the waist into a full circle skirt in two layers. The outer layer of the dress is made from soft cotton printed with a whole array of happy cartoon robots (and their pets).

Genuine brass rivets run down the length of all the seams on both the bodice and skirt, as well as along the hem of the longer layer. All together there are over 450 rivets on the dress! The skirt part of the robot layer ends between the knee and mid-thigh. Both sides feature concealed taffeta hip pockets. Four rivets down the centre front create small pleats for a gentle 1950’s style sweetheart bust.

The longer, under skirt (which makes up part of the lining) is also a full circle with a wavy hem and falls just below the knee. It is made with a shiny golden/bronze crushed taffeta that is super swishy when you walk – or dance & twirl ;-)

This same taffeta is also used to make the straps, which can be worn in a few different ways. They can be added or removed by threading them through the attached pairs of D-rings. Attach just the front two straps for a halter-neck style, or attach the back two as well and tie them in a bow over the shoulders. The upper bodice is lined with 100% cotton so it is comfy against your skin. There is also a light interlining and Rigilene (plastic boning) on all the panel lines so you can remove all the straps and wear it is a strapless design without worrying about it losing its shape.

The two cog/gear shaped rosettes have broach backs and are movable. The belt is also detachable, so you can chose the look or mix & match. Both are made from metallic copper coloured leatherette threaded through with brown velvet ribbon, vintage lace, brass eyelets, chain, rivets and split rings. The buckles are mixed metal with an antiqued brass finish.

The dress opens down the left side-seam with a white invisible zipper that extends from the top of the bodice to just below the waist.

Outer Fabric: 100% printed cotton.

Lining (fully lined, loose at the hem): Upper bodice – 100% chocolate brown cotton, skirt – 100% golden/bronze nylon crushed taffeta.

Sizing: The dress has finished measurements of 97.8cm around the bust and 77.4cm at the waist. It looks best when it fits closely, so I’d say someone with measurements only slightly smaller than those of the actual dress would fit it well. It flares out into a full circle from the waist down and so is basically free-sized around the hips. The hem sits just below the knee on someone about 5’6”/167cm tall. If you have any questions at all about sizing please feel free to ask! You can find out more about the sizing of my patterns on my website - http://www.sebastianwilde.com/size-chart

Custom orders: If you love this item but the size is not for you, or there is some other detail/colour you would like done differently please contact me and I’ll see what I can do to help. I can’t always find the same fabrics/trims/etc. again, but I will try my best and am happy to discuss the options with you.

Washing/Garment care: Please also note that this is not the type of garment you will be able to just throw in the washing machine. If you really needed to wash it like that you could probably get away with it a few times but I would strongly recommend specialist cleaning if it is to last.

SHIPPING NOTES: I can ship to almost anywhere; just check the “Shipping” section under my shop policies to find details. Otherwise please ask if you have a question about your country or my shipping methods and I’ll do my best to answer.

Such a beautiful jacket and the most seamless (!) design process. Ceilidh's style was the source of inspiration; this combined with her access to beautiful materials, skill and patience the reasons I now have this stunning addition to my wardrobe : )

Payments

Secure options
Etsy keeps your payment information secure. Etsy shops never receive your credit card information.
For international orders, most people choose the PayPal option, but if you would like to do a bank transfer/direct deposit, please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details. I cannot offer “Direct Checkout” because Etsy has not yet enabled it to work in my country, sorry!

If you are buying from within South Africa please select the “Other” option and I will send you an invoice with my banking details so that you can just do an EFT, it's easiest for both of us.

Orders will only be shipped once the payment has been confirmed.

Returns & exchanges

In principle, all sales are final. The one-off, custom nature of the items, as well as the international nature of most sales, makes orchestrating returns/refunds really impractical.

I try to make sure that every item I list has good pictures, a clear description and as much detailed info as possible to help you make an informed decision on any purchase. I am also happy to try and answer any additional questions you may have before you click “buy”.

If you do find yourself unhappy with some aspect of your order when it arrives, please do contact me and if there is anything I can reasonably do to try and help you I will.

Shipping policies

For international deliveries I use our national post offices EMS (Expedited Mail Services) option. This service usually delivers to your country in 7 working days and includes a tracking number and insurance.

Once the parcel reaches your country it will still have to go through customs, and I can’t say for certain how long this will take. I make every effort to ensure that the parcel is sent with the correct forms and all the information required to make this part of the process go as smoothly as possible.

Please note that certain customs taxes, import duties etc. may apply and are entirely up to you to pay. I have no way of knowing before if these might apply or how much they will be.

Some countries do not accept EMS parcels from South Africa. If this is the case, I will just have to make use of airmail (still with a tracking number and insurance wherever possible), which can take significantly longer, up to 3-4 weeks.

If you would like to make use of DHL Express delivery this can be arranged, just ask. It is certainly the quickest and most reliable way to send a parcel, but it is also very expensive (add approximately $100 on top of the regular shipping price).

Once payment has been confirmed I’ll try my best to get your order dispatched the same day, or first thing on the next business day as the case may be. To receive your parcel you will need to provide me with a physical address (no P.O boxes) that will have someone there during the day to accept the order. The courier service also requires a daytime telephone number in case of any complications.

Shipping rates will change each year on April 1st in accordance with the prices set by the South African Post Office.

For deliveries within South Africa I use the PostNet to PostNet service. This service promises delivery times of 24-48 hours to major centres and up to 72 hours for outlying areas and includes a tracking number. If you would like courier to your door, this can also be arranged – just ask, although it does cost more.
