Description

This is just one of eight schematic city maps, in which Italian engineer Renzo Picasso compared and analysed relations and similarities between five main American cities, their territories, and his hometown Genoa. The study included New York, Chicago, Boston, Washington, and Philadelphia.
The focus of these drawings is not the city as an urban set, but the city as a system of connections: railways, highways, public transport routes, stations, and interchange points.

ON A CURIOUS NOTE: A circle defines a beige area on every map: with a fixed size and proportion, it helps the viewer compare the cities by offering a clear reference. In Genoa the diameter goes exactly from one main railway station to the other.
