Painting inspired by several rituals of Dumb Cake or Dreaming Bread. A ritually made confection, sometimes made without speaking, by three young maidens who each take a piece to bed, believing it will lead them to dreams of their true love. It is sometimes said that a slice of wedding cake under the pillow will lead to a dream vision of the same subject. I was also thinking of the roof angels carved into Blythburgh Cathedral of the Marshes when I sketched this piece. Original acrylic painting on paper 9" x 12". Signed on back, so you can hang it whichever way you choose.
