Description

Naive art wood mirror frame has a unique design of mallard ducks and bright flowers and small waves. This beautiful hand-carved wood mirror frame is perfect for New England, Long Island, Cape Cod or Nantucket beach house or child's room. The hand-painted mirror frame can be a focal piece in a simply furnished room. It would go well with IKEA decor. It has an Art Nouveau feel.

Perfect condition: no nicks, scrapes or scuffs.

This hand painted vintage mirror frame is painted with a matte paint, possibly tempera. It is not varnished or glazed. The frame is made to hold a mirror - you can see the depression in back where a custom-sized mirror will be installed. The frame is thick enough to allow for metal or plastic clips that hold the mirror to be driven into the wood. To add a mirror should cost you about $70.

I bought this frame circa 1984 from the artist in a small shop on the South Shore of Long Island in the Southampton area. It was on the south side of the main road, I think on the Shinnecock reservation. I have stored it all these years and never displayed it.

The frame is carved from a light-colored, smooth grained light-weight softwood, I think beech. It is very light. The dimensions are: 24" long x 16 1/4" wide, for a mirror 20 5/8" or 20 1/2" long x 13 3/4" wide. The frame is about 1" thick. There is no signature.

I have seen a couple of smaller wooden carvings that appear to be by the same artist on the Internet. This frame is by far the most elaborate. It is unique.

Please contact me if you have any additional questions. If you are in Los Angeles we can arrange for pick-up.
