Custom Double Mat: Acid-Free Matboard, Any Size & Opening, Choose 2 Colors

Fully customizable acid-free double mat, cut to your exact size and opening. Conservation-grade double matting for photos, artwork, prints, and picture framing. Choose two mat colors to create a custom layered look for your project.

HOW TO ORDER
1.) SELECT YOUR MAT OUTSIDE SIZE
Choose the smallest “Up To” option that fits the overall dimensions of your mat.
Example: If your mat will be 15x19, select “Up to 16x20.”
Your outside mat size should normally match the size of the glass in your frame.

2.) CHOOSE YOUR TOP MAT COLOR
Select your top mat color from the dropdown menu. Refer to the color charts in the listing photos.

3.) ENTER YOUR CUSTOM DETAILS

Mat Outside Size
Enter all measurements width first × height second.
Example:
11W × 14H

Artwork / Photo Size
Enter the size of your artwork or photo, width first × height second.
Example:
8W × 10H

Unless you request “window exact,” we cut the inside opening 1/4" smaller than the artwork/photo size entered. This gives the mat approximately 1/8" of overlap on each side.
Example:
Enter 8W x 10H → inside opening will be approximately 7 3/4" x 9 3/4"
For an exact opening, write:
window exact: 8W x 10H

Bottom Mat Color
Enter your bottom mat color from the color chart.
The standard bottom mat reveal is 1/4" on all sides.
If you would like a different reveal, enter your request in Special Instructions.

Special Instructions
Use this box for window exact, mixed orientations, off-center openings, weighted bottoms, different bottom mat reveals, or other special requests.

Please refer to the listing color charts when choosing your top and bottom mat colors. Colors may vary slightly depending on your screen or device.

WHY CHOOSE A DOUBLE MAT?
Double matting adds depth and visual interest to your framing project. The top mat provides the main border around your artwork, while the bottom mat adds a narrow accent color around the opening.
Choose a subtle coordinating color for a classic look or use the bottom mat to highlight a color found in your artwork or photo.

WHY CONSERVATION-GRADE MATBOARD?
Our acid-free matboard is made from alpha cellulose conservation matboard and is completely lignin-free. Removing materials that contribute to aging and discoloration makes conservation-grade matting a better choice for artwork, photographs, needlework, and other pieces intended for long-term display.

SUSTAINABLY CERTIFIED
Our matboard is made with sustainably sourced materials that can be traced through an independent chain-of-custody process. This supports responsibly managed forests and controlled sources while providing conservation-quality protection for your artwork.
