lapis lazuli, sterling silver, freshwater pearl

Most people are familiar with Lapis Lazuli because of the distinctive dark blue color. Unfortunately the popularity and rarity of this stone has driven up the price and made finding decent quality samples at a reasonable price difficult. In fact, archaeological digs and historical writings show lapis lazuli to be one of the most sought after stones throughout man's history. This is the blue color that's seen inlaid throughout King Tut's sarcophagus and many other ancient Egyptian scarabs and artifacts. It was also praised for it's spiritual properties in pre-Colombian America, the Islamic Orient, and all throughout Europe.

We got really lucky with these two pieces. As the photos show, these pieces have beautiful color complimented with some gold colored inclusions of pyrite, also known as fool's gold. I included a close up photo to try and help show the gold dust effect. It almost looks like golden stars sprinkled across a celestial sky.

We put these on hypoallergenic, Sterling Silver (925 silver) ear wires and topped (or bottomed?) them off with a small freshwater pearl to add a little extra elegance.
