This is an original drawing done by myself, Treasa Cailleach, using Micron Pigma pens on Strathmore watercolor paper. The image itself is 2.5 x 3 inches and is mounted on handmade kozo paper I created myself. Both the drawing and the paper are signed. The drawing took approximately 4 hours to complete and the kozo paper is equivalent to another 2 hours.

If you are unfamiliar with kozo paper, it is often called rice paper, but is actually made from the bark of raspberry bushes. When making kozo paper there are many steps, and a batch renders anywhere from 50 to 100 sheets depending on several factors. A batch takes days to go from raw bark to dry paper, with many hours of hands on work, so the two hours is an approximate per sheet equivalent. Kozo paper has a natural texture showing the fibres of the bark, and the process enables soft edges of the paper which I have chosen to honor by trimming as minimally as possible. Kozo paper is also a sustainable paper, though not on Etsy's sustainability list.

The subject of the image is the eastern concept of a deva, a generally helpful spirit similar to what Christians call an angel. The eastern concept is not exactly the same, so I hid many other eastern references in symbol form to inform the viewer of how they might interpret this image. It is very abstracted, so the symbols will only be evident to those that know them. At first glance one can appreciate this image for it's zentangle quality alone, but the deeper meaning and symbols can add to its value for the viewer.
