Anyone who's seen The Tudors (or has a basic grasp of English History) will probably understand how wary I as when my husband quoted Henry VIII as an inspiration. Thankfully, it wasn't in marital terms but for his taste in celtic decorations. An intricate knotwork pattern taken from a famous portrait of him (Henry Tudor, not my husband) was the inspiration for this design.

This men's sweater knitting pattern is designed to be challenging for the knitter and use lesser-known cable techniques. It is a classic raglan shape, with the left raglan seam left open and fastened with leather buckles. You can also make it as a regular raglan sweater if you prefer: just sew the seam up to the collar and leave out the buckles.

The featured yarn (Pur Merinos Français from Bergere de France) is a gorgeous French merino with a beautifully matte finish, and it's ethically sourced too! It really lends itself perfectly to cables and textured stitches and comes in lots of yummy earthy colours.

Difficulty: expert
Techniques used: stockinette, ribbing, increases & decreases, advanced cable techniques.
Featured yarn: Pur Merinos Français from Bergere de France - DK
Sizes: S, M, L, XL, XXL
Needles: 4 mm and 4 mm circular

Awful pattern to follow. Stitch count was wrong on occasion and when I knitted borders I nearly threw it in the bin! So complicated and didn't fit. Why? Had to unpick back down to beginning of armholes and redo. Tip - pick up stitches to knit borders don't do them separately as was a mess . Use buttons as poppers unsightly and will pull at wool. Knit in eyes as felt looks atrocious. Used another pattern for hat as looked awful in picture.

Response from Tigg's Togs

Dear Karen, I'm sorry to hear that you had trouble with this pattern. Please feel free to send me more information by private message so I can see where there were issues and correct where necessary. I really value the feedback of people who use my patterns, we all have different ways of knitting, and there is always something to be learned by how someone else uses a pattern.
