Description

Pre-columbian Design Argentine region of jungles, forest and rives - San Jose
Andean area from the north to the middle of the country (Argentina) [850dC - sXV].

The cross was used throughout America with cosmic-religious character, was a recurring symbol in the cave paintings in temples and mehires, and the structuring of ceremonies.
That suggested to the first Europeans to the possibility that missionaries had preceded the conquistadors.
It can be seen inside the body of amphibians or birds, originally interpret as the wind rose. Each arm would represent a force of nature: wind, cloud, lightning, thunder, rain intersection of them would occur.
The cross, actually responded to more complex issues, cuatripartition part now representing a cosmic, crossing arms defines the four quadrants. The center part now representing the departure site, the ritual center where the community organized its location in the universe. Both the Incas and Mapuche communities were structured in this way.

They are based on the book by Alejandro Fiadone, "Argentine indigenous design one approximation aesthetic pre-Columbian iconography."
