Knit Headband Pattern - "Urbanite Garland"

Instant download

Description

The Urbanite Garland is a stylish head band, reminiscent of the “Roaring Twenties” flapper hair pieces, a bohemian clover garland, an 80’s sweat band (if you’re into that sort of thing), and the ever modern hipster headband that rivals the fedora in every way. So, hence comes the name, “Urbanite Garland”, a combination of those things… A little bit boho and a little bit glam. A little bit hip and a little bit… functional? (darn those 80’s). The body of the headband is adorned with twists, subtle enough to not overpower the ornate yarn. The band in the back is also cabled into a series of twists which will give some pizzazz to the back of your head should you choose to wear if on top of your hair, boho style! It could make a great sweat band for yoga classes if knitted up in some organic cotton… Or if you’re just looking for a unique accessory to rock with some heels on a night out, this is one extremely versatile headband.

Note about sizing: This pattern was designed for a 22” head, and the garment will stretch some to fit. After binding off it should be about 18-19 inches long. If you would like to add or subtract from the circumference, add or remove repeats from the cabled band section.

I originally designed the pattern a couple of years ago using Berroco Seduce, but the yarn has since been continued. This published pattern includes instructions for Berroco Captiva (using US 3 needles),but I am still partial to Seduce so I also included notes for that yarn (using US 5 needles). Either one will work great - the Seduce will be a little looser, but the stitch definition is sharper in Captiva. If you still have some Seduce in your stash, give it a shot! :)
